How to Register

1. I participated last year — Where's my page?

It's even easier this year! You will receive an invitation to register before June 6. If you haven't received it, please send us a note at writeathon@clarionwest.org.

From your invitation link, simply follow the prompts to register and the system will prompt you to login to a new dashboard with your old information, contacts, and content! Forgot your password? Click on the "Passord Help" link below the login to be sent a password link.

It's possible that not all of your content will migrate successfully to your new page. To double-check for missing items or to repurpose any of your content from last year, you can search for your old page here: https://secure.qgiv.com/event/writeathon/search. Thank you for coming back in 2022! We look forward to writing with you!

2. What if I don’t meet my word count goal?

We won’t tell if you don’t. Donations aren’t tied to words produced, so there are no consequence for falling short of your goal. We want the Write-a-thon to be a source of inspiration and productivity, not stress!

3. Do I have to post what I write during the Write-a-thon on some publicly accessible site?

No. Only post what you are comfortable sharing. Some writers enjoy sharing excerpts of their work with sponsors as a way to increase accountability and motivation. Sharing drafts of your work can also be a great way to encourage more donations. However, many writers stick to updating their profiles as they progress, and that's perfectly fine too!

Caution: If you plan to publish your writing later, be aware that most genre markets consider a story “previously published” even if it has only appeared on your personal blog. Sending your work through email or requiring a password to access it are often good ways to get around that.

4. Can I edit my page?

Yes! You can edit your page, move the widgets around, update your progress, see your donors, and hide sections however you want from your Fundraising Dashboard.

Maybe you’ve thought of a new reward to encourage your sponsors, or you’ve sold a story and want to list it in your publications. The Fundraising Dashboard will let you revise your page to share fun news, keep a running word count, and much more.

Watch this short video to learn more about setting up your writer page!

If you registered as a non-fundraising participant, you won't have a public-facing writer page or Fundraising Dashboard. If you change your mind at any point and would like to create a writer page, email us at writeathon@clarionwest.org

Tip: If you’re offering a special reward for sponsors, please send us a note at writeathon@clarionwest.org so we can list it on our "Special Offerings" page: https://secure.qgiv.com/event/clarionwestwriteathon/page/852359.

5. I'm new to fundraising. Do you have any advice?

Our advice? Tell people that you're participating in the Write-thon and what it means to you! Invite others to join you either by participating or by donating!

Additional Resources:

  • From your Fundraising Dashboard, navigate to the "Resources" tab to check out our "Tips, Tricks & Perks." There, you will find examples of writing and fundraising goals, templates, and more.
  • We also have digital badges and fliers you can display on webpages or social media to let people know you’re participating!

6. How will I know if someone has donated to support me?

Donors can be viewed from your Fundraising Dashboard. You can also use the dashboard to send them personalized thank-you notes!

7. Is social media a good place to ask for sponsors?

Absolutely! Use the #writeathon hashtag to share your goals and progress, as well as your trials and tribulations, or to get into the nitty-gritty aspects of your writing process.

Tips:

  • Include links to your Clarion West Write-a-thon page for potential sponsors.

  • Use the digital badges and banners under the "Resources" tab on your Fundraising Dashboard in your social media posts.
