Guided Hike with Deep River Riverkeeper

Join Piedmont Land Conservancy and Deep River Riverkeeper for a guided hike along the Deep River State Trail in Franklinville.

We'll walk approximately 3 miles round trip from Riverside Park to Sandy Creek and back. Along the way, we'll follow the Deep River through Riverside Park, past remnants of the area's industrial history, and into peaceful forest before reaching Sandy Creek. As we walk, we'll explore the conservation history and natural heritage of the Deep River.

The Deep River State Trail was one of the state's first official state trails, designated by the NC General Assembly in 2007. This section of the trail follows a former railroad corridor and offers views of the river throughout the hike. The full trail covers 125 miles with land and paddle sections from the Deep River’s headwaters near High Point to its confluence with the Haw River. Several land and water sections are currently open, with more connections in the works.

We'll meet at the Riverside Park Trailhead, where there is on-site parking. The Franklinville section is a mostly-flat walk on fine gravel, making this a great opportunity to get to know one of the region's most significant—and still developing—trail corridors.

This hike is open to the public, but space is limited to 20 people.
