“Prison is a world of small miracles.” These seven words were written by Jim Foley in the first line of a letter — during his 44-day imprisonment in Libya in 2011 — and snuck out in his shoe.

During one of the darkest and most challenging times of his life, Jim chose hope. An ordinary kid turned reporter from New Hampshire who lived an extraordinary life. One who knew the power of words, and when surrounded by distress, chose to focus on the good.

And so do we. Today, we honor Jim’s legacy by channeling his relentless positivity into our energy to turn small miracles into heroic homecomings.

It started because of Jim. It continues because of you.

Conflict journalist James W. Foley was taken hostage by ISIS terrorists in 2012 while covering the Syrian civil war. His captors tortured and ultimately brutally murdered him in 2014. The Foley Foundation was established within weeks of his death. The mission of the foundation - inspired by the moral courage of James Foley - is to advocate for American hostages and wrongful detainees held abroad and promote journalist safety.
