A New Home for a Florida Icon

Once widespread across South Florida's coastal wetlands and the Everglades, the American flamingo was nearly wiped out from the state by the late 1800s. Today, this spectacular native species is making slow but remarkable comeback. We are excited to welcome one of Florida’s most iconic species to the Wildlife Center while supporting its future through collaboration with zoological institutions and conservation efforts.

Natural Habitat

Our new flamingo habitat will be designed to reflect the beauty of Florida's coastal wetlands. Spacious wading areas will provide an environment where flamingos can socialize and display the natural behaviors that make these birds so wonderful to observe.

Authentic Landscaping

Surrounded by carefully selected vegetation, the habitat will create a landscape that feels authentically Floridian. These natural elements not only enhance the habitat but also reinforce the importance of preserving the places that native wildlife depend upon.

Natural Water Feature

Flamingos thrive in shallow aquatic environments, and the habitat will include a large water feature designed with their needs in mind. Varied water depths encourage natural feeding, wading, and flock interactions.
