• A $2500 gift will enable us to provide music-making technology to children with disabilities. This allows us to purchase tablets and software that is ideally suited to help these students with their music education journey.
• With these funds we can purchase 25 tablets for students with disabilities. Since 2016, MHI has been working with children living with disabilities. MHI empowers them by connecting them to music, self-expression and their peers. These children are among Haiti’s most vulnerable. They are often stigmatized in their communities and overlooked by mainstream programs designed to promote child development.
• In 2018, MHI introduced iPad tablets loaded with garage band app to lower barriers to participation. It created access and instrument choice for students with physical impairments and has had a profound impact on the quality of their experience learning to play music.
• The kids we serve have a wide variety of disabilities. For example, Ashley, a 15 year old student in Haiti, has an articulation disorder and a minor tremor in his upper limbs. But after two years of inclusive music classes, technology helped him find his place in the band alongside his friends. He plays guitar chords on the tablet using the garage band app.
