At less than one week postpartum I was diagnosed with Postpartum Pre-eclampsia. After being told a million times over the swelling in my feet & legs was "normal" I knew in my heart it was not normal. Because I have a family history of pre-eclampsia I was aware of it and knew the signs which lead me to take my blood pressure at home which saved my life. The doctor said to me "Mrs. Froelich if you don't get to the hospital now you could have a stroke" with our 4-day old baby my husband drove me to the hospital where I stayed for 3 nights alone. My husband took care of the baby at home while my Mom would come to visit me during the day. I am doing this walk to ensure there is more care enforced for pregnancies to check for pre-eclampsia. Too many Mom's and Babies are lost to pre-eclampsia which can be managed with proper care. Please help me join the fight to ensure all moms are sent home from the hospital with a blood pressure cuff and proper instructions on warning signs of pre-eclampsia!
