Anna and Owen's Run to 140!
Thank you for your support!
Just before I hit 30 weeks pregnant with my second son, I had a severe headache not relieved by tyelnol. I also had Covid-19 so chalked up my symptoms to the virus. 12 hours later the headache still had no gone away and so I did what I would advise my patients, I took my blood pressure. The numbers staring back at me were 168/104. The panic I immediately felt I wouldn't wish on anyone. I was home alone and was afraid to drive, knowing that blood pressures that high during pregnancy could cause a stroke. Luckily, my cofellow lived a few blocks over and was able to immediately pick me up and take me to the ER. Less than a week later, the same cofellow knelt at my bedside telling me that it was time to meet Owen.
After truly excellent care from an entire department of OBGYNs and MFMs, Owen was born weight just over 3 lbs. He spent 47 days in the NICU learning how to breath, eat and grow big enough to keep his temperature stable. Today he is a thriving, mischevious 2.5 year old.
As a MFM Physician who regularly diagnoses, counsels and helps deliver patients with preeclampsia, I was lucky to be armed with more knowledge and resources than the majority of my patients. Nevertheless, I was still traumatized by the need for preterm delivery and the NICU stay. It has taken over 2 years for me to fully process what happened, and I aim to use my experience to be a better physician and to promote awareness and research for preeclampsia.
The Preeclampsia Foundation funds research focused on prevention, early diagnosis and treatment of preeclampsia, as well as supports programs and information for survivors. Individuals who experience preeclampsia are at an increased risk for heart disease, stroke and other cardiovascular complications in the decades following their diagnosis, and regular exercise is an important preventative tool to combat this increased risk.
140 Over 90 Run is a small charity started by Victoria Buker, a postpartum preeclampsia survivor, with all proceeds directly funding The Preeclampsia Foundation. Over the past 4 years she, along with other volunteers, have raised >50,000$ for the Foundation! I have participated the last 2 years and am excited to support such an important cause with such a great group of humans!
This is the FINAL year of 140 Over 90 Run and we are aiming to raise $20,000 to reach a total of $75,000. Any amount helps and we are so grateful for your support!
