Here's the deal:
For every $10 you donate, you'll earn one entry into a drawing. For the duration of the 140 Over 90 Run I will draw one name each month (February 28, March 31, April 30). Each winner will earn a custom 4" x 4" ink drawing or watercolor painting based on a photograph of a landscape, cityscape, pet, or other subject (but be forewarned, I don't do people).
Interested in something fancier? If you win, you have the option to upgrade your artwork to a 12" x 12" oil painting on canvas by donating an additional $40.
NOTE: please make sure you have filled out the Google form so that I can contact you if you are a winner!
Why donate?
In so many ways, I was lucky -- not lucky to have preeclampsia, of course, but lucky in when I got it and in how much my medical providers listened to me. Lucky that I live at a time when all my complications were resolvable and Theo and I got to go home together a few days later.
I'm fundraising today so that other moms don't have to be so "lucky" -- preeclampsia occures in 5-8% of pregnancies (that's about 1 in every 12-18 pregnancies), but its frequency has increased 25% in the last decades. It is a leading cause of infant and maternal illness and death. There's currently no test that can predict it; we can only diagnose it from symptoms - especially high blood pressure - but, as I did, many women feel fine even though their blood pressure is dangerously high.
Help me raise money to fund research that might make early detection possible, that might save lives, and more; help me raise money so that pregnant moms - particularly ones who are high risk for preeclampsia - can be given a blood pressure cuff to monitor their health at home.
