In May 2020, while 30 weeks pregnant, I began having a bad headache with auras which would not go away with medicine. We went to the hospital and I was diagnosed with Gestational Hypertension (high blood pressure). About 1.5 weeks later, it progressed to Preeclampsia with severe features. I started taking my BP diligently. Then, at 33 weeks and 3 days, I woke up with my fingers and face super swollen with a blood pressure of 170/110. We went to the hospital and I was supposed to be monitored for 24 hours to see if my blood pressure would go down. It didn't so I was induced with our daughter, Hailey. She was born at 33.5 weeks and 4 lbs 8 oz.

If I hadn't taken my bp that morning, Hailey and I may not be here today. This year, I am doing 140 miles in 90 days to raise awareness and fundraise for the Preeclampsia Foundation. They can help provide life-saving bp cuffs to pregnant mothers. I've done this race two times before, and I'm so glad I can give back this year!
