18 Reasons is a nonprofit that increases food security through the power of home cooking.
Through our free programming for students from under-resourced Bay Area neighborhoods in Alameda, Contra Costa, and San Francisco Counties, we empower our community with the confidence and creativity needed to buy, cook, and eat good food every day. Our vision is to create equity and belonging through the transformative and healing power of home cooking.
At our 18th St. Kitchen, we teach paid classes to reach curious home cooks with the means to pay for instruction. Here we host hands-on cooking classes, baking workshops, tasting seminars, private events, and more! Ticket sales and donations from these programs directly fund our community-based initiatives, nurturing a cycle of nutrition education that reaches every corner of our community.
