About Me
Hello, my name is Matthew Rosser and I play sled hockey over in New Hampshire for Northeast Passage. Growing up with dwarfism has often created many challenges when it comes to playing sports. Because having shorter limbs made it so I couldn't run as fast or jump as high as other kids so playing sports was very limited while growing up, especially the older I got. However, this changed when I got to high school and the world of adaptive sports became known to me. It all started during my freshman year when my athletic director asked me to join the track team the next season. The following year I joined the team and started working with my former adaptive sports program in track and field events. However, this didn't last long as they pushed for me to join their sled hockey team in Seattle. After getting an understanding of the basic rules and physics of sled hockey my experience playing the sport has been impeccable. And since that first year of joining the world of adaptive sports, it's been filled with ups and downs but I wouldn't trade them for anything.Â
Being originally from Washington state moving to New Hampshire has been quite the experience. The two main reasons for my move are continuing my education at the University of New Hampshire and progressing my experience playing sled hockey and other adaptive sports. Since coming here and joining the team the community, friends, and experience I've had have been outstanding. Playing this amazing sport gave me the opportunity to make up for not being able to play sports competitively while growing up. The amazing friends, a community of people that have shared the experience of growing up with a disability, and most importantly an outlet for competitive natures to shine.Â
As I'm sure many of you know from experience whether it's you, a child, or friends playing sports can get quite expensive, especially at the competitive levels. Thankfully Northeast passage covers a large bulk of expenses for their athletes. However, this also means that they rely upon fundraisers to help cover costs so that they may continue helping out the athletes.
Thank you for taking a quick moment out of your day to read over this page as it's greatly appreciated. If you are able, any donation that you make is greatly appreciated and welcomed with a big smile. If you are not able to donate please consider sharing this page with anyone you think would like to learn more about competitive sports or would be willing to donate to help raise money for this amazing program.Â
Have an amazing holiday season - Matthew Rosser.
