In November 1992, four months after my spinal cord injury, I participated in my first wheelchair rugby tournament - The Beast of the East, in Philadelphia, PA. Last weekend, 30 years after my first tournament, our team made our annual pilgrimage to Philadelphia, and left with the championship trophy, and with the confidence to know that we are well positioned to defend our 2022 Division 2 National Championship title.
I take pride in my 30 year milestone, but the reality is that the only reason I have been fortunate enough to play rugby that long is because of the amazing organizations, volunteers, teammates, etc. who keep this sport alive at both the national and local level. Specifically, Northeast Passage deserves so much credit for growing wheelchair rugby in the Northeast and for enriching the lives of the people who have been, and continue to be, involved.
Why make a donation? Our team is the only competitive wheelchair rugby team in all of New England, with athletes on our team representing 4 New England states. With the required equipment and travel, wheelchair rugby is a surprisingly expensive sport. The gift you make ensures that our athletes can continue to compete in this unique sport by guaranteeing that they have league registration fees, equipment & supplies, and some travel expenses.
