Hello, I'm Emerson Bamaca, a proud partner at Nineteen61 and the visionary behind one of central Florida's most renowned bars, Bar61! My journey began in Guatemala, and at the age of 16, I ventured to San Francisco, California. Despite the challenges life presented during my upbringing, my determination to succeed was fueled by various motivations, including my commitment to supporting my family. Facing a language barrier (I only spoke Spanish when I immigrated to the US), I found my home in the restaurant industry. Little did I realize that within the realm of restaurants, I would uncover my true calling. From humble roles like dishwasher and busser to more demanding positions such as cook, barback, and eventually mixologist, I embraced every facet of the industry. Upon relocating to Lakeland eight years ago, I can confidently say that it was a decision that transformed my life for the better. While my initial options leaned toward chain restaurants, fate had other plans. An encounter with a small gem named Nineteen61, just two weeks into its opening, was the turning point. Marcos Fernandez, who is now my amazing business partner, entered the scene. Our connection led to a journey of creativity and camaraderie as I assumed the role of bartender and mixologist under his mentorship. Lakeland holds a special place in my heart, providing a nurturing environment for my family. My wife grew up here, and my daughter was born in San Francisco but now proudly embraces her Lakeland identity. My decision to participate in this cause stems from my profound desire to assist those in need. Recalling the struggles of having limited resources for essential needs like food and medication, I'm driven by the urge to make a positive impact. Generosity and compassion are instilled in me as a purpose by God. While I may not have it all, the joy derived from helping others surpasses any material possessions. My achievements, guided by faith, family, and resilience, have granted me immeasurable blessings, and it's with gratitude that I extend a helping hand to others.
