Audrey was born hearing. At 12 months old she got a rare form of Bacterial Meningitis and spent 15 days in the hospital. 8 of those days were spent in the pediatric ICU. The day she was able to discharge she had a hearing test under sedation. We found out that she had permanent bilateral profound sensorineural hearing loss caused by the Menigitis. She was a candidate for cochlear implants, so she underwent surgery a week and a half later. It was about a month post surgery when she was able to get her new ears "activated." She has spent hundreds of hours working hard to get where she is today. With cochlear implants, she is able to communicate in the hearing world, which is amazing. We are forever grateful that she is a healthy spunky little three year old.
