Why I am Participating:
Holly Kobia believes in the positive power of community. She and her husband are the owners of Fit Body Boot Camp in Blacksburg. The sense of community is strong in the gym where she will encourage members to help raise funds and hopes for those fighting and overcoming breast cancer in our region.
Holly may be a familiar face. She moved to the area in 2005 to work for WDBJ7 as the New River Valley Bureau Chief and later weekend anchor in Roanoke. In 2012, Holly left journalism to take on fundraising
for the Hokies at Virginia Tech where she worked for the College of Architecture and Urban Studies and the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences. She led highly successful teams of fundraisers, alumni
engagement directors and communication and marketing professionals that ultimately raised more than $100 million for VT during her tenue. She recently took a position as senior director of philanthropy with the National Policing Institute, a non- partisan and independent nonprofit organization pursuing excellence in policing through science and innovation. Her husband is a police officer in the town of Blacksburg. They have a four year old son, a cat and a police dog.

What is a Sole Star?
The Sole Stars campaign engages leaders in our communities as representatives in the fight against breast cancer. During the month-long campaign, each Sole Star will raise or give a minimum of $1,000, which will be used to support the work of the Virginia Breast Cancer Foundation (VBCF.) The money raised through the Roanoke Sole Stars campaign will pay for breast health services like diagnostic mammograms, MRIs, ultrasounds and biopsies for uninsured and underinsured women in Southwest Virginia.
