Why I am Participating:
As a 13-year breast cancer survivor, I am motivated to raise funds for the Virginia Breast Cancer Foundation and support their mission to empower Virginians impacted by breast cancer through access, advocacy, education, and community action. For years, I co-chaired a tennis event for VBCF called Aces for Awareness. We raised much-needed funding for VBCF's work while having fun. That is why I am a Sole Star - I love having fun while raising money for a great cause!
As a “serial volunteer,” I commit my time to many non-profit organizations in the Richmond area including Christmas Mother, Habitat for Humanity, First Tee, and VBCF. I also volunteer at Altria Theater. I have been married for 29 years, have 2 adult children, and a yellow lab. I love gardening and also enjoy many sports including golf, tennis, pickleball, snow skiing, hiking, and walking our dog.
Every day I wake up thankful that I beat breast cancer and will use that blessing to help raise awareness and funds for VBCF. I am especially excited that the money raised through the Richmond Sole Stars campaign will help pay for breast health services like diagnostic mammograms, MRIs, ultrasounds, and biopsies for uninsured and underinsured women in the greater Richmond region.
