Sadly, everyone I know is connected to someone going through treatment for some type of cancer. For as many years as I can remember, I feel like I’ve been learning about friends, co-workers, and people in my life who were receiving new diagnoses each and every year. The American Cancer Society was a longtime client at my company, The Martin Agency, and through the years of working on that business, I learned what this disease meant to so many families across the country and the work and continual efforts to raise money for this devastating disease. When my friend Kirsta mentioned the VBCF Sole Stars campaign that helps raise funds and awareness for breast cancer I immediately wanted to help and joined the cause. I am really excited to be a part of this amazing team to reach the overall goal for the Virginia Breast Cancer Foundation.
The Sole Stars campaign engages leaders in our communities as representatives in the fight against breast cancer. During the month-long campaign, each Sole Star will raise or give a minimum of $1,000, which will be used to support the work of the Virginia Breast Cancer Foundation (VBCF.) The money raised through the Richmond Sole Stars campaign will help pay for breast health services like diagnostic mammograms, MRIs, ultrasounds and biopsies for uninsured and underinsursed women in the greater Richmond region.
Sole (noun): the undersurface of a shoe; the sole is meant to provide footwear with the necessary support, giving traction and protection from the surfaces it will be in contact with.
Star (noun): a celebrated, prominent or distinguished person; synonym: VIP · (very) important person.
VBCF Sole Star (noun): a very important person providing support for our mission to eradicate breast cancer by raising awareness and funds in their community and providing traction for our mission; willing to have fun while wearing awesome pink shoes!!
