Why I am Participating:
Brian Powell is the Owner and Operator of Wine Gourmet and Medmont Mercantile. Brian purchased Wine Gourmet in 2011 and in 2021 expanded its store front to include their sister store, Medmont Mercantile. A business pairing that won the 2022 Salem- Roanoke County Chamber of Commerce Roanoke County Small Business of the Year award.
Brian is an active part of the community, serving on several boards, including the Roanoke Regional Chamber of Commerce, the RRCC Public Policy Board, the American Cancer Society Cattle Barons Ball, and others. Brian is also a participant in the 40th class of Leadership Roanoke Valley, a member of the Guild of Sommeliers, a member of the Valley Business Front 2020 Advisory Panel, a former recipient of The Roanoker’s 40 under 40. Brian and his husband are licensed Foster Parents here in the valley and also use their energy and resources to support countless nonprofit organizations in the region including, but not limited to, United Way, Virginia Breast Cancer Foundation, Ronald McDonald House, West End Center, CHIP, Children’s Trust, and others.
Brian and his husband, Matthew Thomas, along with their son, strive daily to give back to the community which they call home, Brian was even described as being “an example of an entrepreneur who will serve the Valley for years to come.”
In his spare time, Brian enjoys coaching his son’s baseball team and spending time with his family and their two golden retrievers.
