Why I am Participating:
I am a mother, wife, daughter, sister, aunt, who lives in a place of gratefulness to God for so many blessings including celebrating seven years as a cancer-free survivor and thriver on June 8. My husband of 27.5 years and I have two amazing children, Bradley, a Purdue graduate, who lives in Washington, D.C. where she works as a Senior Area Sales Manager for GE Appliances, and Jamie who is a senior and Boy’s Lacrosse team member at Randolph-Macon College in Ashland, VA. My favorite past-times are doing anything with my family, walking, Bible-study, or reading a good book.
My day job is working as Executive Vice President & Chief Human Resources Officer at American National Bank & Trust Company with a talented group of people dedicated to serving our customers and the communities where we live and work. At my church, Sweet Union Baptist, I serve as Superintendent of Church School and as a Church School teacher. Also serve on the Western VA Community Foundation’s Board of Directors and on the Commonwealth of VA’s Safety & Health Codes Board. As the daughter of breast cancer survivor with many other relatives and friends who are fellow Pink Warriors or have been touched by this disease in some way, it is exciting to “step” outside my comfort zone to join the Sole Star group in furtherance of a promise made to my children to do everything possible to help eradicate breast cancer in the hopes that neither of them will ever hear those dreaded words, “you have breast cancer.”
