Company: Novo Nordisk

Title: Diabetes Care Specialist

Goal: $3,500

Why I am Participating:
I am a Roanoke native with a deep passion for empowering individuals with knowledge, access and helpful resources.  As a wife and mother to two young children, I empower my family to be kind to all, live a healthy lifestyle and continuously learn new things.  I work in the pharmaceutical sales industry for Novo Nordisk supporting patients with type two diabetes.  On a daily basis, I empower the healthcare providers I collaborate with to provide the best medication for the right patient and resources to help their patients successfully manage type two diabetes as early as possible in their diagnosis.

I never anticipated breast cancer to be part of my family history, but breast cancer does not discriminate.  When my mom received her breast cancer diagnosis at an early age, I chose to empower myself to learn about the risk factors, benefits of early detection and treatment options available.  Thankfully, due to early detection and access to wonderful healthcare providers, my mom is a ten year breast cancer survivor! I am honored and thankful for the opportunity to be a VBCF Sole Star so that I can raise awareness and funds that will support the Roanoke community.  My goal while wearing the fun pink shoes is to empower others to ask questions and highlight the unmet needs of individuals with breast cancer so that together, we can eradicate breast cancer.

What is a Sole Star?

The Sole Stars campaign engages leaders in our communities as representatives in the fight against breast cancer.  During the month-long campaign, each Sole Star will raise or give a minimum of $1,000, which will be used to support the work of the Virginia Breast Cancer Foundation (VBCF.) The money raised through the Roanoke Sole Stars campaign will pay for breast health services like diagnostic mammograms, MRIs, ultrasounds and biopsies for uninsured and underinsured women in Southwest Virginia.
