For those who do not know, I am a 4th year student in only my second semester at UNC Chapel Hill. I transferred to UNC after 2 years at the University of Utah, and after completing my first semester at Carolina, I pursued a study abroad in Europe. When I finally returned to campus this fall, I was looking for ways to get involved when Coach Work approached me walking between classes. Long story short, I ended up joining Men's Rowing and am excited for a great year of rowing with my new teammates. Unfortunately, UNC Men's Rowing is classified as a 'club' sport-- meaning that it does not get the same funding as other athletic teams on campus. Dues are a requirement for participation on the team, but we must also rely on donors to help fund our operations. The good news is we're not asking for a handout without putting in some "good ole-fashioned sweat equity" as my coach puts it. My teammates and I will be rowing one of our ergs, in the middle of campus, for 24 hours straight. No breaks, no heat, no creature comforts, just an erg wheel spinning for a team on a mission.
