On behalf of the Homes Giving Hope Development Committee, we are seeking community contributions for an event that will raise funds for the operation and expansion of supportive, independent living opportunities for individuals with unique abilities.
The Backstory: After working with students who have unique abilities and needs within the northern school districts of Kent County, Sara Boven witnessed the road blocks these students face. She detected a common concern: Students felt “stuck” in their dependency on their families. They yearned for independence and an opportunity to experience typical adult roles. Compelled, Sara took action to make a difference. She, along with the support of her husband, Brian, enlisted a team of like-minded individuals to establish Homes Giving Hope. Through the Covid pandemic and to this day, tenacity has been the theme. The first home for women was opened in January 2020. Our next home, for men, opened in January 2022 and our third home, a home for women, opened in August 2023. The need is endless; there currently is a list of 25 individuals waiting for this amazing opportunity.
