Hello again!!
Everybody has to start somewhere. You have your whole future ahead of you. Perfection doesn't happen right away.
In nine quick months I will be running my 6th Chicago Marathon; running has been a huge part of my adult life; and like years past, fundraising for Team One Step for, the benefit of Children's Oncology Services, is a huge part of my running.
Over the years we have raised (guesstimate) just shy of 15k for this worthy cause. This year will push that number to at least 18.5 and maybe 20k.
The number one question I get from those who ask: Did someone you know have cancer and did this charity work with them?
Answer: No, in my life, at a time several signs just pointed too me to do a little more for others. I had a situation where I felt the weight of my own issues, problems and discomfort closing in on my experiences. I found myself again through running. I also understood that my life's disruptions, while big to me, were nothing compared to the challenges presented to a family struggling with a child cancer diagnose. I knew about the existence of Team One Step through 670 the score and time spent in the Lake Geneva and Lake Delevan Wisconsin area. The signs telling me what to do were obvious. If my own core humanity was preserved through running; the outdoor-childhood-experience as a support to kids with cancer is the mission; fresh air and sunshine, the adventure of the day...
I want to help those in need with that simple human refreshment, an outdoor adventure, to make the best of one's experience when realities are overwhelming them.

Team One Step supports Camp One Step by Children's Oncology Services, an organization that operates camps and other recreational and educational experiences for children who have been diagnosed with cancer. One Step Programs aim to cure the spirit by providing an environment of hope, strength, and empowerment. During the pandemic, Camp One Step pivoted to offer virtual camps so now they can serve more children than ever before- even in their hospital beds.
