As many of you know, I began raising funds for my first cancer charity 18 years ago.  Since then, I have participated in charity related triathlons and bike events almost every year.  This year I've gotten to know a "new" to me charity.  I am raising funds as part of Team Fired Up and the Dragon Master Initiative. 

Dragon Master's mission is to build the worlds largest database of childhood cancer patient data.  And to provide funds to help patient in rural areas get the medical help they need.  You can read more about their mission and how a loss of a child began this Initiative.

While I have not experienced the lose of a child to cancer, I have experienced infant loss and this is part of why I have chosen to work with Dragon Master this year.  As a parent who has lost a child, I empathize with parents and the fight they are going through for their child.  As a database specialist, I know the power of Big Data and the difference it can make for researchers.  This charity supports both.

As you have guessed by now, part of this event is fund-raising, and I would like to ask you to sponsor me to run this year.  I will be running my first back to back running challenge at Disney World (don't worry, your money isn't going to pay for any of my expenses).  I'm going to attempt a 10K one day and a 1/2 marathon the next.  Yes, I did an Ironman (26.2 miles of running), but that was a number of years, pounds, and a broken ankle ago.  This will be a challenge for my ankle!  I need your encouragement to help me achieve this goal.
