“Evie is Made of Magic” – a letter from a Dream Parent

We always knew Evie was made of magic, but it wasn’t until January 2024 that we saw this magic bubble to the surface.

Just a month before her 3rd birthday Evie was diagnosed with B cell acute lymphoblastic Leukemia (b-ALL). She began her treatment at Children’s Hospital in Winnipeg January 10th, 2024 where we stayed between the hospital and the Ronald McDonald House for about 33 days.

These were some of our toughest days, accepting our new reality, watching Evie undergo changes and side effects, being separated from her older brother Mack and feeling worried for our future. However, with a little bit of Evie magic and tremendous support from our family and friends we have a decent start into Evie’s journey to stay leukemia free.

For the next 2 years Evie will follow treatment cycles and maintenance along a “standard favourable risk” category for  b-  ALL.

We know this will become just “part of her story” and around the time she turns 5, we will be officially through it. The  roadmap in front of us requires frequent travel to Winnipeg, accommodations, treatments, and medications. This  significantly affects our ability to carry on with our everyday working lives. With continued support and a little more  magic, we hope to put this long road behind us.

Love towards Evie and our family has been radiating through all different sources. We have met and been taken care of  by many amazing humans that work in pediatrics. Countless friends, neighbours, co-workers, and family have helped in  tremendous ways. We are forever grateful; this has truly made this awful reality a little bit easier.

When Evie is not at the clinic or in Winnipeg, she loves to spend time outside riding her strider bike, playing at the park  and in our backyard. She loves doing anything that her older brother Mack is doing and loves the dogs in her life fiercely.  You can often find her gently putting babies to bed or doing Play-Doh at the kitchen table. Evie loves Paw Patrol, playing  baby dolls, and Minnie Mouse.

So, it’s only natural that a magical trip to Disney is the top contender for her Dream Come True! - but we will let  Evie decide when her treatment has finished!

Evie is the perfect blend of spicy and magic, she has made this journey easy on all of us as she handles each new day with bravery, positivity, and smiles. We can’t thank you enough for supporting her dream.

In Support of The Dream Factory

At The Dream Factory, their mission is clear: to make dreams come true for kids in Manitoba battling life-threatening illnesses and to be a source of joy, laughter and hope for kids and families in our province going through an incredibly difficult experience.

They rely solely on the generous support of people and businesses in our community to continue bringing dreams to life. That is why we are hosting 'Dream Ride 2024'. To help make Dreams come true for kids in our community going through some really tough stuff.

Last year, 45 Dreams came true for some incredible kids! They also met 65 new Dream Kids last year - and you can help bring their Dreams to life at Dream Ride 2024!

About The Dream Factory

The Dream Factory is a charitable organization dedicated to fulfilling dreams for kids who are battling life-threatening illnesses. We’re unique because we’re based in Manitoba – and all of the funds we raise stay in this province to help local children. Everything we do is focused on helping sick kids and their families.

The Dream Factory relies solely on the generous support of people and businesses. Since 1983, when we were founded as The Rainbow Society, we’ve created cherished memories for over 800 families in Manitoba.

Our mandate simply requires that a potential Dream Kid should be under the age of 18 and able to communicate their dream. We include all immediate family members in the dream and ensure that it's a memorable experience outside of the hospital environment.

On average, we fulfill approximately 40 dreams in a given year, though we have been making more and more dreams come true in recent years. The average cost of a dream is over $17,000.00 CAD, a cost that continues to increase with rising travel costs, a challenging U.S. dollar, and dreamers that keep getting more creative, especially when thinking of Dreams 'closer to home'.

We couldn't do what we do without the incredible support of our donors and volunteers. Thank you for helping us bring even more dreams to life in 2024!
