Joining ICU baby to help support NICU families in our community!

Why I am passionate about fundraising for and supporting ICU baby...

When my son was born, I was given 2 minutes to hold him before he was taken off to the NICU to be intebated because he could not breathe. He had fluid in his lungs and a serious infection. He remained in the NICU for 10 days immediately after birth. While his nurses were great with him, there was a different nurse everyday with different rules for us to follow on how to touch our son, how to feed our son, and how to comfort him. We could not do anything to soothe our child unless the charge nurse signed off on it. On one particularly difficult day, a volunteer from ICU Baby came into my son's room. She introduced herself, asked how I was doing, and gave me a hug while I started to cry about how this was not how I anticipated the first few days of my child's life to be. She gave me wonderful words of encouragement, provided me with diapers, wipes, a shirt for my son, and asked if I had stable transportation to visit regularly, indicating that if I did not, ICU Baby would set this up for me so my son would not be alone. That 15 minutes of kindness meant everything to me, when my world felt like it was falling apart. I am happy to say that my son is thriving and doing well today, and we will be in attendance to walk and raise money so ICU Baby can support other families in similar situations who could desperately use 15 minutes of kindness.
