September 4^th is the 10^th anniversary of the founding of the James W. Foley Legacy Foundation, named in memory of American journalist, Jim Foley, who was kidnapped, held hostage for nearly two years and murdered in 2014.

Jim Foley grew up in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire, attending Carpenter School and graduating from Kingswood Regional High School in 1992.  Jim served for five years in Teach for America in the inner city of Phoenix, Arizona, before becoming a conflict correspondent in Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, and Syria.  His story is told in the HBO documentary, “Jim, the James Foley story”, directed by Wolfeboro native Brian Oakes and available on most streaming platforms and in the 2024 book, “American Mother” written by acclaimed Irish author Colum McCann with Diane Foley. 

The Foley Foundation is a non-partisan non-profit that seeks to inspire the moral courage to secure freedom for Americans held unjustly captive abroad, prevent future hostage taking and promote journalist safety.  Its annual “Bringing Americans Home” research report has successfully driven US legislation and our US government to bring home more than 130 innocent US nationals from captivity abroad.

Our 10^th anniversary James W. Foley Freedom Walk will occur locally at St. Katherine Drexel church on Saturday, September 29^th at 9 am and in Rochester, New Hampshire and virtually worldwide on Saturday, October 19^th at 10 am.
