“From Breathlessness to 3 Miles: My Parkinson’s Journey”

In 2015, my life took an unexpected turn. Shortness of breath and asthma, triggered by chlorhexidine, forced me into early retirement in January 2018. Little did I know that this was just the beginning of my journey.

As I regained my strength, I faced a new challenge: walking. Attending a wedding over Labor Day weekend in 2019, I struggled with each step. A thorough workup revealed cervical spinal cord compression, leading to surgery in March 2020. Despite the procedure, my gait remained unchanged, walking with a cane and frequent freezing while walking. and then head tremors emerged in November 2022.

Then, in August 2023, the diagnosis came: Parkinson’s disease. The ground beneath me shifted once more. But this time, I refused to be defeated. From wheezing while crossing the street to walking three miles—my progress became my victory.
