In 2022 I made a commitment to myself that if I was healthy and able I would continue to fundraise for charities each year in order to qualify for the NYC marathon. l am an Occupational Therapist (OT) for over 25 years. Helping others whether it be through therapy or fundraising is an important part of who I am. As an OT we treat individuals with disabilities to be as functionally independent as possible. This year I chose Queens Centers for Progress (QCP). QCP provides services for people of all ages, from toddlers to the elderly; and for all aspects of their life, including providing a place to live and work, health care, hygiene and life skills training, education, therapy, vocational training and recreation. QCP has many other support services to help people with developmental disabilities lead fuller lives. 93 % of the money that is fundraised will go directly to the individuals for care. QCP is funded solely by the federal and state government receiving the bare minimum for the cost of the services provided which is why it is critical to fundraise for these individuals. I have a dear friend Lauren Hatton- Bruno whose uncle Bobby resides in a QCP Residence. Uncle Bobby was born with cerebral palsy. He has been living in a QCP Residence for 9 years. He has had the best care and services which is attributed to the wonderful staff and diligent fundraising. This year it is my mission to fundraise $3,000 within 8 weeks to help individuals with disabilities like Uncle Bobby in order to qualify for the 2024 NYC MARATHON.
