ABOUT THE EVENT
- What is the Pink 13.1
It’s a 1-day, 13.1 mile event that’s making a real difference in the fight against breast cancer for Virginians. Participants can choose to walk, run or bike the 13.1 miles. The event supports the Virginia Breast Cancer Foundation.
2. When and where does the Pink 13.1 take place?
The event is Saturday, October 19th in Abingdon, Virginia. You can also participate virtually if you are unable to make it to Abingdon.
- Before You Register: The Important Things to Know
- All participants must agree to raise a minimum of $300 for Pink 13.1 in order to participate.
- Each participant (whether on a team or not) is responsible for her or his own fundraising commitment in order to participate.
- The registration fee and all donations are non-refundable and non-transferable. This means that once a donation is posted to a participant’s account it cannot be moved to another participant’s account for any reason, regardless of whether you’re able to participate in the event. Additionally, donations cannot be refunded.
- If you are under the age of 18, you must have your waiver signed by a parent or guardian and be accompanied by a parent or guardian who is also a registered participant for the duration of the event.
- How do I register for Pink 13.1?
Go to www.vbcf.org/pink13 and complete the registration. You will be guided through the registration process. Once your transaction is complete, you will receive a confirmation email receipt. If you don't wish to register online, click here to download a printable registration form to mail in or call 540-202-2649 and we will be happy to take your registration over the phone.
5. How far do we go?
The route covers approximately 13.1 miles. It is an out and back route on the Virginia Creeper Trail.
6. What if I can’t go that far?
If you are unable to continue while out on the route, one of our support vehicles will transport you to the next rest stop, or ahead to the finish line, where you can rest and get medical attention if you need it. Your safety is always our first concern. With the route being an “out and back” you can also choose to go less than the 13.1 miles.
7. Is this a timed Race?
No. You are welcome to time yourself but we will not be timing you.
8. I plan to Bike. Do I bring my own bike?
You are responsible for providing your own bike. There are many rental options in the Abingdon area but we recommend booking early because it is a busy time for bike riding on the Virginia Creeper Trail.
9. Where do we spend the night?

10. Is there a minimum age requirement to register for Pink 13.1?
No, but Participants under the age of 18 must provide a waiver signed by a parent or guardian and be accompanied by a parent or guardian who is also a registered participant for the duration of the event.

12. Is the event held in bad weather?
Whatever the weather, the event usually continues. So please be prepared for walking in inclement weather. If the weather gets too severe, we always have a back-up plan for evacuating the route and relocating to make sure that everyone is housed safely.
13. How does Covid-19 affect the event?
We are closely monitoring Covid-19 and will follow CDC guidelines. The great thing about this event is that it is outdoors and easy to socially distance ourselves. We ask our participants and volunteers to follow CDC guidelines as well.

1. How do I find a participant's personal fundraising webpage?
Type the participant name in the "search this event" box on the top left of the homepage.
2. Why is the search not finding a participant that I know has registered?
Try entering just the first few letters of the participant's name. If you have a problem locating a participant that you are sure has registered, please call our office at 540.202.2649.
3. Is it secure to enter my credit card information on the Pink 13.1 website?
Yes. The system we use is a Level 1 PCI Compliant provider.
DONATIONS/FUNDRAISING
1. Is a portion of the registration fee a donation?
No. Your registration fee does not apply towards your fundraising minimum, nor is it tax-deductible.
2. If I can't participate in the event, what happens to the donations that I have raised?
All donations submitted to Pink 13.1 are non-transferable and non-refundable. If you are unable to participate in the event, your donations cannot be refunded nor can they be transferred to another participant. Your donations will go directly to the cause as if you had participated, and we hope your donors will appreciate supporting Virginia Breast Cancer Foundation regardless of your participation in the actual event.
3. What if I haven’t met my fundraising minimum in time to check in for Pink 13.1?
You will need to have at least $300 in your fundraising account in order to receive your official Pink 13.1 credential and participate in the event. If meeting the fundraising minimum is of concern to you, please reach out to the Virginia Breast Cancer Foundation Office for help.
4. How does Virginia Breast Cancer Foundation utilize the contributions?
The money we raise through events like the Pink 13.1 is used to provide Virginians with knowledge and a voice on the breast cancer journey. We offer individualized resource coordination, free breast health educational materials; newly diagnosed, caregiver, and survivorship packets; advocacy for improved health public policy and research dollars for the state, and funding for screening and diagnostic breast health services for uninsured and underinsured in SWVA.
5. Where should I mail donation checks?
All donation checks must be attached to a donation form and should be mailed to the address listed on the donation form, Virginia Breast Cancer Foundation, 2821 Emerywood Parkway, Suite 203, Richmond, VA 23294.
6. Who should I make my check out to?
Please make all checks payable to: Virginia Breast Cancer Foundation.
7. Are donations tax-deductible?
Yes. All monetary donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.
8. Are registration fees tax-deductible?
No. Registration fees are not tax-deductible.
9. What is a matching gift and how do I apply for one?
Many companies (both large and small) offer employee matching gift programs. This means that when an employee makes a donation to a cause or non-profit organization, the corporation will “match” that donation with an equal (or greater) amount to the same group. Encourage your donors to ask if their company matches gifts!
TEAMS
1. How do I join or form a team?
If you haven't registered as a participant for Pink 13.1 yet, you may go to www.vbcf.org/pink13 and select “Start a Team” or "Join a Team." To start a team, create your team name and fundraising goal and you’ll be designated as the captain. To join a team, search for the name of the team you want to join and select it. Or call 540.202.2649 to register and indicate that you would like to join a team. Let us know the team name, and we will be happy to get you started. If you've decided to join a team after you've already registered, call the VBCF office at 540.202.2649.
2. Can team members share or split donations?
If you are mailing in a check donation, you may ask us to divide that donation among team members.
3. How many people can make up a team?
Teams can be as small as two members and as big as you can imagine! You and a friend can register as a team and then inspire others to join you.
4. What is the fundraising minimum for a team?
Each team member is responsible for their own fundraising minimum requirement. While the team can set a bigger group goal, there is no minimum requirement for a team other than the individual requirement ($300 per participant.)

There is no registration fee per team, other than the individual registration fee for each participant.
