Why I Walk

In April 2022, I ended up in the emergency room at 34 weeks pregnant with severely elevated blood pressure and protein in my urine. I was diagnosed with preeclampsia and induced immediately. My delivery included magnesium and around-the-clock blood pressure checks... which meant I could not leave the hospital bed until 24 hours after my son was born. 52 hours into labor, I was taken back for an emergency c-section. Our son was born and 24 hours later, I was finally able to hold him for the first time. He spent a week in the NICU and needed calories added to his bottles for the first year of his life. I walk in the Promise Walk because of the impact preeclampsia has had on our family. I walk for better funded research to help me and other moms live healthy lives after preeclampsia and to best avoid it in future pregnancies.
