Why I Walk

I walk because I am one of the lucky ones who had Preeclampsia back in the 90s, but it didn't affect me mentally in that moment or long-term. Although I was able to make it full term, Preeclampsia not only caused my blood pressure to continue to be on the rise during the ending of my pregnancy, but it caused growth restriction to my oldest daughter. Since my daughter was no longer growing, the doctors planned to induce me. On the day they anticipated the labor, my daughter came naturally on her own. She was 5lbs and healthy.

I thought nothing of this incident since it wasn't severe for me. I had no idea that later down the line, Preeclampsia would strike worst. My youngest daughter had a severe case that took her life momentarily. The doctors advised that if she didn't go to the doctor when she did then we would've lost her and my granddaughter! This has caused my daughter to have ptsd and question her womanhood. No woman should have to go through this especially during their first pregnancy. It baffles me that years later Preeclampsia has only gotten worst instead of improving.

I now stand firm for the cause and walk for us who experienced Preeclampsia, those who survived it, and those who are no longer with us. We will continue to walk with purpose until a cure is found!
