Junior Achievement (JA) Fundraiser
I am raising funds to support Junior Achievement. If you are not familiar with Junior Achievement please see the information listed below.
- Mission and Purpose: Junior Achievement USA is the nation’s largest organization dedicated to giving young people the knowledge and skills they need to own their economic success, plan for their future, and make smart academic and economic choices1.
- Program Areas: JA’s programs cover work readiness, entrepreneurship, and financial literacy. These programs ignite the spark in young people, helping them experience and understand the opportunities and realities of work and life in the 21st century.
- Global Reach: Today, officially known as JA Worldwide, Junior Achievement is an international nonprofit educational organization. It encourages early exposure of young people to business techniques through widely used curricula and after-school programs. By the early 21st century, Junior Achievement had offices in more than 120 countries2.
- Founding: Junior Achievement was founded in 1919 by Theodore Vail (president of American Telephone & Telegraph), Horace Moses (president of Strathmore Paper Co.), and Senator Murray Crane of Massachusetts.
- Hands-On Learning: In its initial incarnation, Junior Achievement allowed groups of boys and girls to create their own functioning companies. Participants would create a business plan, solicit investments, obtain raw materials, manufacture products, and sell them3.
- Leadership: Mr. Alan Armstrong, President & CEO of The Williams Companies, chairs the Junior Achievement USA board of directors. Jack E. Kosakowski serves as the president and chief executive officer of Junior Achievement.
- Board Members: Junior Achievement USA board members represent a wide range of businesses and academic institutions around the world. Additionally, approximately 3,766 board members lead JA Area Offices across the United States.
- Proven Impact: Junior Achievement is one of the few nonprofits that use independent, third-party evaluators to gauge the impact of its programs. Since 1993, studies have shown that JA has a positive impact in critical areas1.
- Program Reach: Junior Achievement USA reaches over 4.4 million students annually in 176,714 classrooms and after-school locations. JA programs are taught by volunteers in inner cities, suburbs, and rural areas throughout the United States.
- Belief in Potential: Junior Achievement believes in the boundless potential of young people and aims to inspire and prepare them to succeed in a global economy
