I am thrilled to be a Lighthouse foundation board member and am proud to spotlight the Low Vision Services program this year for the Lighthouse Spring Campaign!
The Lighthouse for the Blind, Inc. is dedicated to empowering individuals with low vision to live independent and fulfilling lives. Low vision impacts millions of individuals and can make everyday tasks like reading the newspaper, going for a drive and even recognizing familiar faces a challenge. Our goal is to strengthen and expand our essential Low Vision Services, including:
- The Clinic: Our knowledgeable and caring staff provide low vision services in the Seattle area.
- The Store: the right tools to help people with low vision use their remaining vision.
- Rehabilitation Services: Learning to adapt to their vision loss.
- Low Vision Educational Services: boosting awareness of the tools and resources available.
To continue providing these vital services, and to expand them to meet the needs of a
growing population, we rely on the generosity of individuals like YOU. Our goal is to
raise $125,000 by August 8th – which would allow us to meet these needs:
The Need:
- Technology – Upgrading our clinic equipment to have the latest tools available
for patients.
- Uncompensated Care – Many people who need access to Low Vision services
lack the insurance to cover their care. Our Uncompensated Care fund fills that
gap, allowing people without insurance coverage to benefit from our services.
- Expanded capacity – A second exam room at our clinic would allow our
program to increase and expand overall services and support more individuals.
Impact by the Numbers:
Approximately $100/hr for services through the Independent Living Program
- Gifts of $100 can support someone with low vision learning how to navigate to the grocery store safely”
- Gifts of $100 can mean someone with low vision can learn how to cook and continue to live independently
- Approximately $300/hr for LVS (clinic and store)
- Gifts of $300 mean someone with low vision can meet with our optometrist and get the care and support they need
- Each client has their own individual needs and we meet them where they are in their vision loss journey – so there is no ‘average’ cost of service per client
Donors who make gifts of $500 or more to the campaign will be honored with a
personalized tile on our Partners In Empowerment donor wall in the Low Vision Store,
spotlighting the tremendous generosity from our community and inspiring generosity in
others.
Please join me in making a difference for someone with low vision needs...today!
