I am deeply grateful to have met such extraordinary people who have shown my child genuine compassion, understanding, and patience as we navigate a world filled with unique daily challenges, limited empathy, and frustratingly inaccessible services. Sadly, during the majority of our outings we endure stares, whispers, smirks, and finger-pointing simply because I want to enjoy a bookstore outing with my child. My hope is that one day, my child will not only be a part of the community but thrive in it as an active, accepted member, unburdened by others' inability or unwillingness to take the time to see how incredible my child truly is. Our lives are unquestionably enriched when we take the time to get to know people who face atypical challenges. Those of us who are willing to embrace differences instead of hide it, will develop superhero level compassion and problem-solving skills—qualities that, in my opinion, make us better humans.
