In 2021, Dominic Tarasi was only nine years old and getting ready for braces and needed to have two teeth extracted along with a gum graph. That night, on November 10th, the gum graph on the roof of Dominic’s mouth came out and caused excessive bleeding. The family rushed him to have the procedure redone. A week goes by with no issues. November 19th comes, and the bleeding happened again, this time Dominic was admitted to the hospital for the whole weekend and had emergency oral surgery to stop the bleeding.
Fast forward to Thanksgiving Day, which also happened to be Dominic’s 9th birthday, it happened again….The bleeding was worse than ever. His parents were able to keep him comfortable until the following morning where he saw an oral surgeon who told the family that Dominic has low Factor IX and was diagnosed with Hemophilia B. They were advised to see a pediatric Hematologist immediately. The oral surgeon expedited an Invisalign type mouth guard that would keep constant pressure on the roof of Dominic’s mouth until they went to see the Hematologist. That evening he started bleeding once again, which led Dominic and his family to stay another weekend at the hospital. The doctor gave Dominic Factor IX which brought his level up, allowing the roof of his mouth to clot which eventually healed over time. Being diagnosed with Hemophilia has forever changed Dominic and his family’s life.
Dominic has a Hemophilia Trash Truck made in his honor, thanks to KMG Hauling! Take a look:
