Running the Chicago Marathon with Team One Step has been a goal of mine for many years. My oldest brother (David Schill) has been going to camp for 21 years and it has been tremendous for him and my family. David was diagnosed with leukemia at age 4 and developed brain damage and epilepsy from the chemotherapy. One Step has been a fantastic place for him to form life-long friendships with others that have similar stories and experience things he otherwise might not have been able to. Since I was so young, I don't remember much of his early experiences at camp, but I do rememeber seeing how excited he was after being able to go horseback riding in Arizona, ski in Utah, and participate in the infamous "boat day" at summer camp despite having multiple seizures per day. I've been lucky enough to be a counselor for three camps so far and it is phenomenoal to meet our campers, hear their stories, and watch their life-long friendships with their fellow campers develop.
Please join me in helping raise money for this fantastic organization that has given so much to so many families. Every donation—big or small—helps me reach my fundraising goal and directly impacts this important cause.
