Welcome to my fundraising page! I will be running the BMW Berlin Marathon to empower children diagnosed with cancer and their families. I am coveing all of my own expenses - every cent you donate will go straight to the kids!
As many of you know, I am a pediatric oncologist at Lurie Children's. I see every day the impact of treatment on our patients: they have to endure nausea, fevers, and long potentially life threatening hospitalizations. We truly see the children and their worried parents at their worst, and there is nothing better than being able to send them to CAMP to be kids again. At camp they are able to have fun, be with kids who are going through similar challenges, and they flourish. They play, swim, make crafts, and go to dances. While at camp they are able to get medications they need, but that is no longer the focus.
On average, it costs $1500 to provide a camp session to one camper. All camp sessions year-round are FREE to every child - families pay nothing. For this reason, we need help from YOU!
Team One Step supports Camp One Step by Children's Oncology Services, an organization that operates camps and other recreational and educational experiences for children who have been diagnosed with cancer. One Step Programs aim to cure the spirit by providing an environment of hope, strength, and empowerment. During the pandemic, Camp One Step pivoted to offer virtual camps so now they can serve more children than ever before- even in their hospital beds.
