Why I Climb for ROMP
Hi everyone, thanks for all your support - I’m thrilled to be participating in 2025 Climbing for ROMP, a fundraising expedition that supports the Range of Motion Project (ROMP)!
Climbing for ROMP is a metaphor for the mountains we all face. Tackling my mountain has been a transformative and healing process for me, as I rehabilited an elbow range of motion disability from 2019-2021 and started climbing more mountains again in 2022. After climbing Ojos del Salado (elevation 22,615ft) for the Moving for ROMP campaign in 2023 and supporting a Guinness Adaptive World Record attempt at the 10th anniversary of Climbing for ROMP in 2024, I am so grateful for the opportunity to attempt another mountain with the inspiring 2025 team of adaptive athletes and allies - including some recipients of ROMP prosthetics! Together, we're looking forward to volunteering at a ROMP clinic and then climbing Cotopaxi (elevation 19,347ft) to raise awareness and funds for more people to get access to prosthetics. ROMP's waitlist in Ecuador and Guatemala still has over 750 patients waiting for prosthetics. After a family friend's car accident led to a below-knee amputation this year, this cause is more important to me than ever.
Every donation—no matter how big or small—helps our team reach our goal and has direct impact on getting more high-quality prosthetics with follow-up care to people with range of motion disabilities. For example, $250 can already enable ROMP to repair a patient's broken prosthetic. All my travel and climbing expenses are being covered by personal savings, so that all the money raised can go directly to ROMP. Here's how you can help:
- Donate: Please contribute whatever you can - no amount is too small! Every donation is 100% tax deductible and goes directly to ROMP's work, supporting people with range of motion disabilities and amputations in Ecuador, Guatemala, and the U.S.
- Participate: Anyone can climb, hike, bike, and move in any way to raise funds to help ROMP serve as many people as possible! Learn more and register here.
- Spread the Word: Share this fundraising opportunity with your family, friends, neighbors, colleagues, and social networks. Let’s spread awareness so we can raise more funds in support of mobility for all!
Thank you for standing by me in this effort. Your support means the world to me, and makes a world of difference to the people receiving prosthetics and health services from ROMP!
