Why I Climb
I grew up in Hood River, Oregon where I fell in love with outdoor sports and fostered my athleticism as a high-performance volleyball athlete. However in 2017, my world flipped upside down. Just a month into my college freshman year at just barely 18 years old, I was diagnosed with an aggressive bone cancer called osteosarcoma, and underwent 8 months of chemotherapy and a limb-salvage surgery to save my leg. Two years after this surgery, I made the difficult decision to amputate my leg for a chance to reclaim my mobility and identity as a competitive athlete.
ROMP's mission is incredibly important to me because of the significant impact that high quality prosthetic care has had on my life. My entire decision to amputate my leg following osteosarcoma treatment was motivated by the existence of quality prosthetics and the promise of achieving an enhanced quality of life through movement and sport. Mobility is a human right, and ALL amputees deserve the care they need to not only survive, but thrive.
