From his birth almost 10 years ago, my son Ryan has gone through so much. He was born with Agenesis of the Corpus Callosum, which basically means he's missing the center bridge of his brain. He's also been diagnosed with many other things including Cerebral Palsy, Global Developmental Delay, and Autism. He is nonverbal and doesn't walk on his own, but that doesn't limit him one bit. He has his own ways of doing things and his disabilities don't stop him.
Being a special needs mother, it's very emotional, exhausting, and very difficult at times - but it's equally rewarding, beautiful, and so much fun. To know someone verbally is wonderful, but to get to know and love someone nonverbally is a special experience only we get to have.
We live with my best friend and her son who is also autistic, so our house is full of acceptance and love and little victories. I'm running for our kids who live their life to the fullest every day. I'm running for the parents who are exhausted but so full of love. And finally, I'm running for the Flutie Foundation who makes access to resources so much easier for families living with Autism. I'm so thankful to be on this team!
