BACKGROUND:

The “SF Regiment Honor WOD” is a tribute to the U.S. Army Special Forces, also known as the Green Berets, tracing their origins to June 19, 1952. The workout encapsulates the rich history and demanding requirements of the Special Forces.

Derived from the Office of Strategic Services (OSS) units of World War II, the Special Forces were initially conceived as a strategic force during the Cold War, trained to work behind enemy lines. The unofficial adoption of the green beret by Special Forces in the 1950s, which became official in 1961 at President John F. Kennedy’s behest, symbolizes their distinctiveness.

The Green Berets’ involvement in critical conflicts—from training forces in Latin America during the 1980s to pivotal roles in Afghanistan and Iraq post-9/11—underscores their significant impact on modern military tactics and counterterrorism.

Coaches Paula Lang and Karen Shepherd, who designed the workout and shared it with WODwell, aimed to reflect the rigorous training and the strategic significance of the numbers associated with the Special Forces.
