It's been 9 years since my initial diagnosis in June of 2016. During that time, I have become more and more familiar and impressed by the fabulous, caring work of the Michigan Parkinson Foundation (MPF) and all that it does to assist PD patients and their families in the state.   This year's Walk in Grand Rapids on Oct. 11,  will be my 7th Walk in helping to raise funds for this wonderful organization. 

    In the past I have had my own team; but this year, Sue's Solemates is no more. I am walking with/under the team name of Rock Steady Fighters +, a group of people from my 2-3 times a week Rock Steady Boxing class which is designed specifically for PD folks. Besides helping ourselves with strength, coordination, and balance activities, we are also an informal support group  - we "get" each other. It is indeed a special group to me.

        The revenues from our fundraising events are essential to help ensure that no person with Parkinson’s in Michigan and their families are without quality care and support. The need for MPF’s respite care program has increased twenty-fold, providing $10,000 to families in 2018 to more than $283,000 and 13,885 hours to 176 families in 2024.  Over 13,500 individuals served through MPF exercise classes and 2,116 served through educational programs statewide. To date, we have been able to say “YES” to all that need our help with support from individuals like you.
