Scleroderma is a rare autoimmune disease that causes hardening and tightening of the skin and connective tissues. It can cause scarring of the lungs, stiffening of the heart, and paralysis of the GI tract. I’m walking to raise awareness, support research, and stand with everyone affected by this challenging condition.
I was diagnosed nearly 8 years ago with scleroderma. There’s still no cure. The medications I take help manage the symptoms, but they don’t stop the disease. That’s what makes scleroderma so tough to fight; and why research is so important.
Thankfully, they are making progress. Some of the treatments I rely on didn’t even exist a decade ago. That’s the power of funding and awareness.
So take a walk with me, donate, or just help raise awareness. I’ll be out there on June 25 in downtown Highland Park and I’d love your support.
