Join us for the 2025 Making Waves Gala and Auction, Friday, May 9th, 5:30p!!!

Feiro has inspired curiosity in thousands to connect to the wonders of our local marine environments since 1981.  Despite the extra challenges we face with an aging facility, we have a commitment to our future transformation and are proud to continue serving our community while advancing the design for the new Marine Discovery Center on the Port Angeles waterfront.  To help us meet these ambitious goals and celebrate the exciting changes ahead, we are pleased to invite you to join our 2025 Making Waves Gala and Auction!  We are delighted to host this event at Field Arts and Events Hall that will celebrate Transformation: Wings of Change.

This event provides much of the annual support for FMLC operations and is critical to maintaining our core work.  You can help by joining us and participating in our silent & live auctions, raffle, raise-the-paddle or simply make a donation.  The silent Auction will open online May 2.  Live Auction items include a 7-night trip to Bali or a long weekend stay in Napa Valley plus much more.

Welcome Featured Speaker!!

Kristen SteinmetzerGeneral Curator at the Alaska SeaLife CenterKristen Steinmetzer headshot.jpg

Kristen grew up in the tide pools of the San Juan Islands where her love of marine life turned into a passion for seabirds when she saw her first tufted puffin in the Strait of Juan de Fuca.  That passion for seabirds took her to Seward, Alaska, where she oversees a large aviary full of puffins and their avian relatives.  Kristen has worked with arctic seabirds and waterfowl for the past 17 years in both captive and wild settings. She has worked with the ASLC's seabird scientist on various captive research projects, but her favorite project is helping with on-going seabird surveys where she gets to see puffins in her own backyard.

Kristen will present: Tufted Puffins: Parrots of the Sea

Tufted puffins are a gregarious seabird species that can be found from the Gulf of Alaska to the coasts of Washington and Oregon. Kristen share her experience working with this species at the Alaska SeaLife Center in Seward, Alaska and what makes this species so unique.
