Why I Walk

I never expected that two days after delivering my third child, I would be told that instead of being discharged, I would be moved to the high-risk OB unit. What was supposed to be a joyful time—bringing home my baby, soaking in those first precious moments—quickly turned into a terrifying experience.

A team of doctors and nurses crowded my room to break the news that I was being diagnosed with postpartum preeclampsia, a condition I barely knew existed. My blood pressure had skyrocketed to dangerous levels, and the reality of how serious this was set in fast. I spent a week in the hospital with my husband and baby by my side, unsure of what would happen next. It was overwhelming, frightening, and something no mother should have to endure.

But by the grace of God, I survived. And because I survived, I feel a sense of responsibility—to share my story, to raise awareness, and to help fund research efforts. Preeclampsia doesn’t just happen during pregnancy; it can strike after birth, and too many women like myself don’t know the warning signs.

Why I Walk

I walk to fund research, to push for better education, and to ensure that no mother feels unprepared or unheard.

This is more than just a cause—it’s personal. By walking, by sharing, and by advocating, I hope to make a difference. Because every step we take brings us closer to a world where no mother loses her life to a condition that could have been prevented.

Join me. Walk with me. Let’s make a change.
