Why I Walk

Preeclampsia isn’t “just high blood pressure.”

It’s a silent monster that can turn a normal pregnancy into a full blown emergency in the blink of an eye. This is why I walk. One minute you’re planning your baby shower and the next your vision’s blurry, your hands are shaking, the doctors are talking about early delivery to not only save your life but baby too. This was us in 2019 and 2022, giving birth to our daughters early and both very traumatically. The swelling, horrific headaches, sky high blood pressure readings that don’t even make sense… That is not “just pregnancy symptoms,” as some of these doctors want to say. Listen to your gut, you know your body best. Preeclampsia doesn’t care how healthy you are. It doesn’t care how far along you are. It doesn’t come with a warning. It comes with intense fear. Magnesium drips. Isolation. NICU stays. Emergency inductions. Trauma you never saw coming. Like me if you’ve had it, you already know the war your body went through. If you’re going through it now, you are never alone and if you haven’t heard of it? It’s time to learn and listen up. Because this isn’t rare. It’s real. It’s serious. And it needs to be talked about WAY more. Preeclampsia traumatized us for a long time but it did not steal our joy, it did not take our beautiful girls and I am a 2x survivor. Every mom who’s faced this terrible disease deserves to be seen, heard and validated. This is why I walk.
