Why I Walk

In 2021, I planned the most beautiful home water birth that turned into an unexpected hospital birth with a preeclampsia diagnosis. At 37 weeks, my midwife discovered that I had developed preeclampsia. At the time, I was working on a maternal health quality improvement project and planned a kick-off for the DC birthing hospitals to help moms in DC, specifically from Ward 7 and 8, that experienced preeclampsia, not realizing that I would be apart of that demographic.

Today, I walk for continued maternal health quality improvement projects around hypertensive crisises. I walk for birthing persons who have had an expected birthing outcome or experience after developing preeclampsia. I walk for birthing persons that have lost their lives and/or expereinced an infant loss due to preeclampsia. I walk for my little one who had interuterine growth restriction due to my preeclampsia. I walk because I'm a survivor!
