Why I Walk

After 6 years of trying to conceive, my husband & I welcomed our baby girl on Nov 13. Just 5 days later, we were rushing back to the ER for early signs of post partum Preeclampsia. I was admitted for another 48 hours, receiving around-the-clock medication and care. Rewind to my pregnancy, I was VERY swollen for my entire 2nd and 3rd trimesters, but it wasn't concerning to my providers. 

Fastfoward 1 year, a close friend of mine was experiencing the same signs post partum and went to the ER multiple times, only to be brushed off and not taken seriously. 

The lack of care and education regarding a potentially life-threatening disease is my WHY. My WHY is my daughter - I volunteer, participate and am vocal about maternal hypertensive diseases so that hopefully she will not have the experience that I had at just 5 days postpartum. I hope for a future of maternal medicine that is better educated in these diseases.
