Why I Walk

Throughout my entire pregnancy, I always had elevated blood pressure, but never in any concerning range. In July, my husband and I went in for what we thought would be a routine 39 week appointment. When we got there, my blood pressure was elevated. I had a high reading about a month prior to that as well, so my doctor quickly diagnosed me with gestational hypertension and immediately called the hospital to get me scheduled for a medical induction. It was scheduled for the next evening. Later that day, my urine test came back with high protein, officially getting the diagnosis of preeclampsia without severe features.

Thankfully, during labor, my blood pressure remained elevated but not in a severe range, so I didn't require any medications during labor. I successfully delivered our beautiful girl the next evening.

For my first 6 weeks postpartum, while balancing being a new mom and adjusting to our new normal, I was now required to take blood pressure medication every day and take my blood pressure 90 minutes after using a blood pressure cuff that reported the readings to my hospital to make sure no adjustments to medication needed to be made. Thankfully, my blood pressure returned to normal range and I was able to slowly wean myself off of the medication at 6 weeks postpartum.

I now have a healthy and happy girl who goes on walks & runs with me and keeps me on my toes. My doctors are to thank for that, as I don't know what would have happened if my doctors didn't act as quick as they did!
